Politics is a dirty game at times, it has many shady sides associated to it, making for a perfect transition from the real world to the reel world - suspense, thrill, drama & what not! Shows based on politics are indeed fun watch.

We bring you 5 tv shows, that you must watch in this presidential election season.




1. West Wing : Aaron Sorkin is no short of a genius when it comes to writing that truly hits a chord with the audience. With a concept like “walk the talk” acting through the show, the West Wing was an immediate hit with the audiences in the year of 1999. Martin Sheen enacting the role of the US President, with a team of highly capable co-actors, supporting the rigorous demands of the script, West Wing is often quoted as the most intellectual show in the history of US Television.





2. House Of Cards : a totally different side of the political arena is showcased in house of cards. The dirty mind games, the shrewd political ambitions and the ambiguous narration makes for a thrilling watch. The subtle style of direction, of Kevin Spacey’s character in Frank Underwood, often looking at the camera and talking directly to the audience, keeps you in awe of the whole larger than life screen presence of the actor, and the contextual relevance of the show itself. Barack Obama and Bill Clinton are amongst loyalists of the show.


Clinton once said to Kevin Spacey  “Kevin, 99 percent of what you do on that show is real. The 1 percent you get wrong is you could never get an education bill passed that fast”.





3. Veep : the celebrated comical drama from HBO follows the life of Selina Meyers, a former senator, who is trying her level best to juggle between her professional and her personal life. What all this leads to is, epic synthesis of comedy of errors, leading to incredible 30 minutes of comical fusion. With impeccable cast, led by Julia Louis Dreyfus, the show has an incredible cult following.





4. Designated Survivor : set on the premises of a bomb-attack during the annual state of the union, a rather average man, with a background in architectural designing, is bestowed upon the opportunity to lead the United States Of America, since he was the designated survivor for the evening. Tom Kirkman (played by Keifer Sutherland) brings great poise to the show, thanks to his 10+ years of incredible work in the highly celebrated show 24. The show has a well thought out story narrative and the direction makes it worth your while.





5. Yes, Prime Minister : a rather satirical take on the working mechanism of the political system in the UK Parliament. This show follows Jim Hacker (Paul Eddington) constantly dependent on his mentor in Sir Humphrey Appleby (Nigel Hawthorne) to guide him against the insurmountable crisis that always tend to find some way or the other to hinder in his way. The show became famous since most of it’s episodes, ended with the most adored line in the UK political system “Yes, Prime Minister” !


Yes, Prime Minister had such mass following, that it was even recreated in India, in Hindi and then later in Bhojpuri, a sheer testament to the show's loyal world-wide audience.
